Marra Is Lovin’ Natural
What is your favorite hair product(s) or product line?
I am currently loving EDEN BodyWorks™ products from the coconut shea line
What is your Daily Hair Regimen?
Because my hair is so short, I co-wash my hair every other day. When I don’t co-wash it, I spritz it with some water and put a small amount styling product in my hair for hold.
What is Your Wash Day Regimen and how often is it?
I co-wash my hair every other day using any co-washing product and I shampoo once a week, usually on Saturdays. Before I shampoo my hair, I pre-poo with an oil or an oil mixture and I deep condition after I shampoo for about 15-30 minutes. After I rinse out my deep conditioner, I usually do a quick wash and go using the L.O.C. method.
What do you love about your hair?
What I love most is that it’s mine. I know it sounds silly but after years of relaxing and not liking my hair one week after visiting the salon, I love that I can have full ownership of it. I’ve finally learned how to care for my hair and I think returning to my natural state has really helped me in that way.
What is your favorite hair style and how do you make it last throughout the week?
Currently, the wash and go is my favorite because it’s kind of the only thing I can do. I try to wear a satin bonnet at night to maintain definition and then I will occasionally spritz with water in between co-washes.
What are some of the things that you have removed from your regimen & how has this helped your hair?
I have stopped using color. I colored my hair from the time I went natural in 2011 until January 2015. I was always trying to maintain a vibrant color and going to the salon every three months. Because of this, I was not able to retain much length and I got to a point where I felt like I was constantly trimming my hair. Now that I chopped off all of my colored hair and am growing it out completely natural, I am able to feel what my hair feels like when it is 100% healthy.
Give any piece of advice that you wish someone had given you about hair.
I would say enjoy every stage: the TWA stage, the awkward stage, all of them. I think I spent so much time focused on retaining length, growing hair and having the perfect hairstyle that I didn’t get to fully enjoy my hair in those moments.
What is your hair goal(s) and how do plan to achieve it?
My hair goal for this year is to have a healthy medium length tapered fro by this time next year. I’m definitely staying away from color and heat this year and really focusing on staying consistent with my regimen.
